Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for an official visit, preparing the Santa Catalina hotel for his stay with a personal security team and staff. Special measures have been taken, such as the prohibition of parking on nearby streets, the removal of containers, and the deployment of reinforcements at the entrances and exits of the venue.
The leader arrived in a long convoy of dark vehicles, minibuses, ambulances, police cars, and Civil Guard vehicles, accompanied by local authorities. Security has been enhanced with additional cameras, refrigerators, and bulletproof glass to ensure his stay at the hotel.
Xi Jinping, who has previously visited the Canary Islands, made a brief stop in Las Palmas on his return from Peru. During his stay, he toured the historic center and the Casa de Colón, as part of his official agenda. The local Chinese community welcomed him with a banner and waving Spanish and Chinese flags in front of the hotel.
The Santa Catalina hotel has been fully booked, with the area closed to traffic and parking, surrounded by a security ring made up of different vehicles. Compared to previous visits, this time Xi Jinping has decided to stay in the island's capital, following his previous stay in the south accompanied by a delegation of around 150 people.
